History of the Pressibus site
Before the site : the association Pressibus is created in november 1990 and is growing by studying daily french comics, directed by Alain Beyrand, who writes theses lines and brought Pressibus on the Internet.
-
1997, beginning with the nearby provider
The Pressibus site begins on january 1997, the 19th. Its address is http://www.lenet.fr/pressibus, because it is set in the company Lenet, located in Tours (France, Loire valley), 1 km near Pressibus.
Pages are written with Microsoft Publisher 97, a cheap software allowing to build quickly a site, from existing documents.
-
1997, high growth
The located disk place is only 1 Mb, and it it very little for the mighty content of Pressibus. Because, from its creation, the association has created many important folders (see the chapter about the Pressibus publications in our site of Studies of comics).
To respect this located place and present a maximum of informations, no pictures are used. So the site can quickly grow. But a comics site without images is very frustrating. Even for Lenet... And Lenet allows Pressibus to have 2 Mo, then 5 Mo, then more...
So, it allows :
- the illustratation of the comics pages and addition of many more pages, through 5 sites :
- the creation of new sites, which first are existing as a page growing and growing :
- the Ataxx games, new page on april, the 7th, in english on june, the 21th,
- the site Internet Perso, new page on february, in english on august,
- the site Outfit of freewares, new page on february, in english on august,
In the same way, the organisation of the site is changing :
- very quickly the mono-directory structur (standard for Publisher 97)is replaced by a multi-directories structur,
- then, progressively, Publisher is lost and the sites are again written, directly in Html (see the technical précisions in this site "Internet Perso", at the chapter "Marks to do a site"). Pages were sometimes very big, written in little size, with few illustrations. Now they are dispatched in spaced out and illustrated pages, on the right of a frame used as a menu.
In décembre, this logo is created

1998, at first a big hesitation
On january 1998, all the Pressibus sites have around 40 visits per day, and it may continue...
But Lenet now works only for enterprises, and the little Pressibus is not one. However it is a temptation to become an organisation, and to get its name, here pressibus.org. But no solution is coming...
So, in february, Pressibus goes in the provider Infonie during... one week ! The site is called http://perso.infonie.fr/pressibus. 15 Mo were allowed.
What happened ? The company Val de Loire Electronique, which had come in Internet, one year ago, in the same times than Pressibus, and helped by its president, strengthens this collaboration by bringing a financial support.
-
1998, a new dimension
So Pressibus has its domain name, the site is called http://pressibus.org (or http://www.pressibus.org) (from february, the 15th), and also now 25 Mo are available, and Pressibus uses a Web server, and a FTP server.
You may see these important possibilities on the site of Lenet (P;-S; : now gramond.com). This formula is finally cheap, excepted for the very little structures. The physical site is set in the USA, on a computer of Silicon Graphics.
So in february :
- the site The Reversi album is created,
- almost all Pressibus sites may be downloaded,
- mailing lists are created, for a better information of users.
-
1998, many more hits
Statistics of the new site allow to see a very good growth, because the average of visited pages by day is going from 600 in february to 2500 at the end of en fin 1998.
The site also grws :
So, in february 1999, always by gramond.com, the Pressibus site has 50 Mo allocated, comfort strenghted bu the fact I am now connected on Internet by the cable from november 1998. So good things to continue...
